Mrs Cathy at the School

Oba Women Primary School was built when the entire Nigerian school system went on strike. The strike involved the whole National Union of Teachers (NUT) from all States in Nigeria. Oba women single handedly bought a land, erected school buildings and started the school. The women did this to make sure children are not left on the street during any other school strike. These women are managing the school to date.

The bravery of these women spurred chief Elebo into action to adopt the school and it became her baby. She gave many of the children scholarships and paid their school fees for many years. She visits the school nearly every year and gives school supplies to both the school administration and the children.

In 2012, the principal of the school requested for children’s chairs as one of their immediate needs and chief Dr. Elebo supplied the whole students with chairs. In the day children’s chairs were launched, Elebo gave each child in the school a back-pack, books and writing materials. Dr. Elebo went further to change the entire school chalk blackboards to dry-erase blackboard. She has taken on herself to be supplying the entire school, dry erase pens and dry erase blackboard cleaners. This a way of sacrificing for our children in the society, one step at a time.
